a snow day

inspiration from the last storm made me get skylar all bundled up and strapped in the sled.
she didn't want to touch the snow, but didn't complain about being pulled around the front yard for a few minutes.

the big man delivered

christmas has come and gone, and nearly that fast, too. we spent christmas eve at the olsen's for dinner (my first "schnitzel" ever), and then headed to park city for the night and christmas morning. i was as giddy as a school girl and could hardly wait for morning. seeing what santa brings is way more fun when the christmas magic is there (i do believe, i do believe, i do believe). skylar was stoked on her toys and was completely overwhelmed after an hour, and crashed. genet was super excited too. santa delivered and she had a blast playing with barbies, toys, babies, etc.--all while my dad assembled her kitchen/baby bathing station...and he thought he was past santa claus assembly. ha. breakfast was the bomb, as per usual (a little breakfast casserole, ginormous fruit salad, cinnamon rolls, and nog). and then for the presents. this year my family decided that all presents under the tree had to be homemade (at least the ones from sibling to sibling). it made thinking up what you were going to give each person more fun and i think will be a tradition that sticks. after we cleaned up and loaded the car up, we headed back down to the olsen's for lunch and more presents. with a quick stop off at mer and clay's to see the 14' tree in all her glory and the santa loot, we headed home to unpack and unload...and what an endeavor that was. we were definitely spoiled (camping stove, camp kitchen, wii games, clothes, money, quilts, etc.). overall it was a stupendous holiday season. but not to forget the most important part: the little dude born so many years ago who is our Savior. He is the reason we're here, the man we hope to emulate, and the true reason to celebrate. amen.

saturday night we went to see the temple square lights with greg and whitney. it did not disappoint. the mundane task of stringing strand after strand of lights is definitely worth the dizzying glow at the end. the company was pretty good too ;)
after freezing our cajones off, we piled back in the car and went to eat at kyoto-a japanese restaurant. greg, whit, and matt ate up the sushi and sashimi, while i played it safe with some teryaki chicken. skylar was along for the ride too, of course, and was an absolute gem until she wanted a little feast of her own. so, while i was dishing out some booby pie, matt was serving up brownies and ice-cream all while trying to explain to greg why we have all ten seasons of friends on dvd. greg was skeptical at first, but after we had (er, forced) him to watch a couple episodes he was laughing his arse off (i'm trying not to swear as much...arse isn't a swear word, right?!). all in all it was a fun night; good to get out and enjoy some christmas goodness with two of our favorite peeps.

and the stockings were hung by the chimeny, er, cd rack, with care...

i sewed.
i went down to mama debs house for some help with a christmas stocking for skylar. debbie made matt and i both stockings, but i thought i'd help with skylar's. and, it turned about pretty darn cute, if i do say so myself--mostly due to debbie's mad skills. yes, she did most of the work, but because i helped a little, i'm taking most of the credit. that's how it works.

the fruits of my (okay, our) labors:

debbie also made this great car seat cover for skylar. my job was picking out the fabric, hers was to make it. i may have had the harder job. kidding. she made me bind it, and oh what fun that was. it actually wasn't bad. though my finger tips were crying a little.

my binding job. please don't look too closely. especially you, debbie.

we had it quilted to give it some weight, warmth, and cuteness...

the quilter did these cute flowers in the back. so adorable.

i also cook.
matt had bacon, eggs, and toast.
i had this:

before:
world's largest chocolate chip pancake

after:
a small scrap...
and a huge gut.

and that's all, folks.

rockin' her tube socks & a killer grin.

letting baby oil penetrate her scalp.
i hate cradle cap.

a big crib and this is where she migrates every.single.night.

two's better than one.

i love me this baby.

the sexy shirt

if you've talked to merilee in the last few days, you've heard the story of clay's sexy shirt: clay got a new shirt...they went on a date...ended up at target...clay comes home mad that he 'wasted' the sexy shirt on target. supposedly this so called "sexy shirt" is making it's big re-debut next saturday for family pictures (because we're so much better than the freaks at target). so, now it's poll time. which of the following shirts will clay be wearing ('cause you know it's one of 'em):

is he going silky smooth?

patriotic?

rugged and manly?

or just plain s-e-x-y?

time will tell.
i'm on the edge of my seat.
don't disappoint, clay.
