the last supper as a threesome.

after a quick visit to the olsen family reunion that we'd be 

missing, we took skylar out to dinner to celebrate our new beginning.

we checked into the hospital at 5:30 on friday morning.

i LOVED that i could shower and show up.  

when skylar was born she wasn't breathing and was taken directly

to the nicu--i never got to hold her or see her until i was in recovery.

this time around they held her up right after they cut the cord.

after she was wiped down they brought her over and i got to hold her

while they finished the surgery.  it was perfect.

my parents brought skylar to the hospital right after i left recovery.

skylar was a little confused at first, but couldn't get enough of her new 'baby sissy.'

later that day genet came over.  apparently she had been telling EVERYONE

in her day camp about her becoming an aunt again (not to be confused with the 

kind that crawls on the ground--she thought she was going to be change into that kind of 'ant').

SADIE ANN OLSEN

we let skylar pick out a toy to give sadie.  she picked out that duck stuffed animal.

it was in her bassinet the entire stay.

just the girls.

and then we took a turn.

when sadie was born she was coombs positive--long story short: i'm o-negative and saide is o-positive.  somewhere along the line our blood mixed.  not necessarily a problem for me because i got a shot to prevent future complications, but for her it was a big problem.  my blood was attacking her red blood cells.  usually your liver purifies these cells and makes them water soluable so that you can pee them out, but her liver was too immature.  this 'battle' caused her bilirubin levels to soar to an almost critical level. 

  it was a very emotional and chaotic 24-48 hours.  she had to be on bili lights (4, to be exact) all the time, in goggles to protect her eyes, and had blood drawn every 4-6 hours.  adding insult to injury, we couldn't hold her because she had to stay on the lights (the lights help the "bad" red blood cells break down so that he body can excrete them...the only way to get rid of bilirubin is to poop/pee it out).

our nurses were absolutely amazing.  despite sadie's need to be on the lights, she

let us take her out so that skylar could help give her a bath.

skylar loved it.

sadie screamed.

you can see the tape on her head--they had to give her an iv in her head to 

get extra fluid in her body.  that was a painful thing to watch.

we got to take her out every other feeding for 15 minutes so that i could feed her.

best 15 minutes ever.

and then, after all my tears were cried, many prayers were said, and a

priesthood blessing given, sadie made a very quick improvement.

so much so that on monday night our two nurses came in

and told us that we could all go home.  

and so we did.

and now we have an almost healthy baby (bili is still working its way down) and 

a two year old--skylar's b-day is today!

life couldn't be any better.
